What is the Indicator?

Percentage of people in employment, who are on permanent contracts (or on temporary contracts, and not seeking permanent employment) and who earn at least the real Living Wage.

This national indicator has been newly added to the Wellbeing of Wales: national indicators set in December 2021.

What does the data say?

Results indicate that the percentage of people in employment in Wales earning at least the real living wage fell from the peak in 2013 to a low of 65.4% in 2016. The proportion has generally increased since then despite decreasing over the last 2 years, with the latest data for 2022 showing a rate of 67.7%.

The proportion of women earning more real living wage (63.7%) is much lower than for men (71.6%). This largely reflects the fact that women are more likely to work part-time than men, and part-time jobs tend to be lower paid than full-time jobs.
